How I shopped around for car insurance and saved myself nearly $600!
When’s the last time you checked your insurance rates?
Last summer I got my insurance renewal notice for my home and car insurance. Every year (6 months for the car insurance) it goes up. Yet I’ve never filed a claim for either one. And my house and cars keep getting older. So why the heck does my insurance premium keep going UP? Shouldn’t it go DOWN?
So I decided to shop around. I figured if I didn’t save at least $240 for the year (or $20 a month) I wouldn’t switch. So I went online to
NetQuote filled out the form, and got a few quotes.
If you hate being bothered by a bunch of insurance agents you might want to just grab your phonebook and call a local independent agent (one who represents more than one company). Because I got at least 6 different agents contacting me.
Which was a pain in the neck. But in the end it was worth it.
Because I ended up saving $567 – more than twice as much as I had hoped for! What a nice surprise. So I was going to save nearly $50 a month – that was a deal too good to pass up!
P.S. Bad news – I “forgot” to mention that we had a trampoline in our backyard when I filled out the online application. So when the insurance company did a “drive by” inspection and found the trampoline, I was forced to either get rid of it or risk having my policy cancelled. The original savings was $879! Fortunately, my agent found another insurance plan that covered the trampoline, but the savings weren’t quite as good – but it was my own fault. So make sure you reveal EVERYTHING when you apply for an insurance quote!
